New Year Deflab Fun Run 2010

New Year Deflab Fun Run 2010

The (now) annual New Year deflab fun run took place on Sunday 3rd January 2010. The format and location was meant to be the same as last year, but the icy weather put paid to part of that! John Anderson reported that the road up to the Nature Reserve at Taynish was impassible but he suggested an alternative.

British Schools Orienteering Championships, 2009

British Schools Orienteering Championships, 2009

These were held near Newcastle at Druridge Country Park on the 22nd November. It was a great weekend with training on the Saturday afternoon, a social on the Saturday evening and then the competition itself on the Sunday. Like all orienteering events it was really well organised with a games tent for the children while they were waiting and the opportunity to speak to some of the British team who were answering questions and signing autographs.

Ardkinglas, Controllers report (apology)

Ardkinglas – did the ‘Ardkinglas gremlin’ hit again? Or was it a case of ‘Give the control placer a white stick’?
First of all my apologies for putting control #108 in the wrong place (I think it was about 40 m to the west of where it should have been). I know this did spoil to run for some, especially Ian and Mark from looking at the splits. Also, control #112 on the orange, green and blue courses was a little too far up the spur. So how did this happen and what have I learnt from it?

Training / Coaching weekend, 19-21st March, 2010, Speyside

Training / Coaching weekend, 19-21st March, 2010, Speyside

As anticipated, I have had a very full email inbox with 50 people expressing an interest in the coaching weekend in March 2010! This is an excellent response and now I have to find accommodation and potential coaches. There will be a great mix of folks on the weekend - from adult novices to very experienced adults to experienced juniors and those who have heard about the EckO ‘rent a crowd’ and want to come along for the social side.
