Craggy Island Triathlon

Craggy Island Triathlon

The Craggy Island Triathlon took place on the incredible unspoilt island of Kerrera on the 4th September.
550m Open Water Sea Swim from the mainland to the island, 15km Off-Road Mountain Bike, 4km Off-Road Run.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Oban Mountain Rescue Team and several EckO people helped out and we also provided the timing.
Report, photos and results added.

Just as I went to take a photo of Andy Dale changing into his bike gear he recoiled with cramp in his calf, so the photo is not very flattering but does convey the pain!

The shot of John Anderson was taken shortly before he had an “incident”, which ended with him being carted off to Oban hospital. I think it is mainly cuts and bruises (mainly to his pride I suspect). We passed him in the car later and he was smiling, but that may have just been the drugs.

I was just setting up the download computing in the back of the Oban Mountain Rescue support vehicle when the radio crackled into life with a call for it to proceed to an incident with an injured cyclist, which was John. So me and the computer were emptied out into the field with haste, and the Ross Lilley rushed off in the van to the scene. Fortunately I was prepared for such an eventuality and had the portable power pack with me. So I just got my alternative setup in the back of a 4x4 working just as the first finisher arrived.

EckO was represented with the following entries:
Andy Dale - 12/43 Veterans
John Anderson - DNF after the “incident”
Leigh Murray - 8/22 Senior Veterans (1st female)
Jess Halliday - 26/97 Seniors (3rd female)
James Tullie - 7/97 Seniors
