Junior Inter-area Competition 2011

Junior Inter-area Competition 2011

Last weekend saw 8 juniors from EckO (Murray, Briony, Callum, Emily, Ellis, Tom, Emma and Roanne) join 10 others from FVO, Clyde, Ayroc and Solway to form a “West Area” team for the Junior Inter area Competition. The competition consisted of relays on the Saturday followed by individual runs on the Sunday.

West area had great results in the relays coming third in the boys (inc Callum) and taking 2nd (by a couple of seconds) (Briony) and 3rd in the girls. On Saturday evening we stayed at an outdoor centre close to Biggar where once we had arrived a mass game of football was played. We then packed the older juniors off to the Tinto Twin Night Event (Murray competing at night for the first time and Briony for the second) which left us adults to entertain the younger juniors with an hour of basketball and another hour of team games and quizes. Luckily for the adults Merlin and X factor started so we were allowed some time off!

Relay results were announced and medals handed out to the top three teams. For the first time ever in memory the relay scores were East, 56, North, 56 and West, 56, this meant it was an even field for the next days competition.

Bedtimes started at 9.30 for the youngest (who fell asleep very quickly) and went on till 1pm when the adults deemed it was quiet enough for us to go to bed ourselves. Unfortunately due to the time change the youngest juniors were back up at 6am! After an early morning game of rugby we set off en mass for the Tinto Twin day event.

Everybody did their best and we had some fantastic personal results, Briony was piped at the post and came in second, Tom came in second for the M12 boys and Murray had a cracking run and even beat some of the Scotjos boys! It was very close but in the end West came out as the overall winners by 10 points taking the trophy from the north who have had it for the last four years!

After the presentation the EckO juniors had a long and difficult journey back with horrendous rain which started in Dunbarton and ending in Taynuilt with Tom being very unwell. We had obviously picked up a tummy bug as 4 more juniors went down with it in the following days but everyone agreed we had had a fantastic weekend and are looking forward to next years Junior Inter-area competition (minus the bug!)
