Paul Frost’s contribution to orienteering is nationally recognised

At the recent SOA AGM EckO club member had his extensive contributions to orienteering recognised. EckO has, in the past, awarded Paul the ‘Forest Trophy’ for the work he does for the club in a voluntary capacity. Both the Scottish orienteering Association and British Orienteering have now presented him with awards.
Every year, the SOA President awards the ‘President’s medal’ to an SOA member for their contribution to the sport in Scotland. A full report is on the SOA website.
Donald Grassie, the SOA president also made another presentation to Paul. This year, British Orienteering asked members to nominate someone from their club who they felt deserved recognition for their ‘Services to orienteering’. On Paul’s certificate it states ‘Awarded for his active involvement in the development of orienteering in Scotland, particularly web-based applications including RouteGadget.’
I think everyone in the club would ‘EckO’ this (sorry, I could not resist!). Paul ensures that RouteGadget is displayed for all the club events, he was at the forefront of ensuring that we used electronic punching as early as possible and, after a few events of copying down his own controls decided that we MUST have pre-printed maps. Many of these innovations helped to attract and keep people coming to the local events. At the recent SOL on Ardnaskie Paul set up all the entries and computing side of the event; on the day he ran it with the assistance of Robert Kincaid and a very dodgy generator and coolly coped with the fact that he would be unable to display detailed results at the field.
Paul set up RouteGadget UK to help other clubs be able to offer RouteGadget and now services 58 clubs/events around the UK. Among these are the LAMM (Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon) and the OMM (Original Mountain Marathon), 2 high profile non orienteering events that see the benefits of the service to their competitors.
