Julies Tick Count.

Julie declared war on ticks! First protective layer was “Skin so Soft”, followed by “Bramble Basher” socks, long running tights and gaiters on the top. Tick count was as follows,

Day 1: 1
Day 2: 2
Day 3: 0
Day 4: 0
Day 5: 0
Day 6: 0

…........and her skin is now ever so soft!

Ellis, Daniel, Ewan, Tom and Briony all achieved top ten positions in their age classes and of course we are all especially proud of Callum and Eilidh for achieving “podium positions.”

Forget the rest of the competitors, there were two big competitions going on within EckO, Lucy, Julie, Carol and Kate were all running course 25 while Jan, Mandy and Fiona were all running W50S. Results were eagerly compared and analysed on a daily basis; Lucy’s score was usually the time to beat and on Day 6 this was confirmed when Lucy got a big announcement on the run in to say she had the best time on W40S and was the new leader.

Andy, Lucy and Kate also achieved top 10 positions in their respective age classes. Well done!

The “Rest Day” was not really a day of rest for many. As well as those involved in organising there were also those who competed. A special mention goes to Lizzie who not only escorted Jura and Louis round the Mountain Bike O but also ran in the sprint race in the afternoon, as well as helping out! Wow!

Sprint Results as follows:

Short Sprint (44 competitors)

Callum H 2nd
Tom 19th

Long Sprint (179 competitors)

Murray 60th
Briony 72nd
Lizzie 82nd
Dave 100th
Fiona 157th
Robert mp
Finlay mp

Other memorable moments:
• The “bogs” getting “bogged down” on day 5. This provided great entertainment for those of us in the toilet queue and a lot of discussion as to the best way to get the lorry out.
• Callum getting interviewed after his run on day 4.
• Taynuilt School being presented with the Scottish Schools Trophy for winning in the Primary School section of the Scottish Schoold competition held at at Scone Palace in June.
• Lots of the juniors achieving a badge score.
• Having to phone Gordon Shearer from the event center for the Elite start times and Gordon saying outrageous things down the phone to make Lucy laugh while she’s trying to be official.
• The 6 Days Quiz – never again!
• The Stramash Ceilidh, what a great evening.
