Scottish Relay Champs 2011
EckO orienteering tops will be very numerous at the Scottish Orienteering Relay Champs this Sunday.
The club has entered six junior teams and five teams of ‘seniors’ (some are more senior than others!). The relays will take place on a new area near Crieff - Drummond Castle Estate & Torlum Woods.
The juniors are all competing in the “Junior: Total age less than 40 years”. The teams are:
By ECK: Callum, Tom & Briony
Clear the D-ECK: Ewan, Jamie & Murray
Where the H-ECK: Eilidh, Jura & Roanne
Flipping ECK: Emma, Louis & Sam
ECKO Gheko: Alasdair, Daniel & Anja
Nervous WrECK: Emily & Rona, Ceri, Andrea (and I think Andrea is the Nervous WrECK here!)
The courses they will run are in the order of Yellow (1.7km, 50m climb), Yellow (1.7km, 50m climb) & Orange (2.4km, 80m climb).
Good luck to all the junior teams and remember to enjoy your run!
Kate and Gordon MacM are looking after the juniors (and seniors, but they do not know this yet!) and making sure all are clear about the relay area layout, change over, entertaining EckO people when they are not running, congratulating all when they finish, supplying cake (well, I can always hope!)?
Now to the senior teams.
Leading out is a Men’s Open team of Ross, Andy D. & Alan. They will each run a course of 6.4km with 300m climb.
All the other senior teams are entered in the “Handicap 15+“ class. Each age class is given points, these are added up and come to more than 15 points (but less than 18 points).
The teams run a 5.0km, 200m climb leg then a 3.9km, 150m climb leg and finally another 5.0km, 200m climb leg. The teams (in leg order) are:
ECK-centric: Paul, Susannah & Gill
ECK-onomical: Carol, Lynne & Lucy
ECK-travagant: John C, Julie & Mandy
ECK-ellent: Gordon S, Suse & John P.
Remember to wear your EckO top at the relays - it makes it much easier to spot you coming up the run-in towards the hand over. We must get a HUGE team photo before all run!
The mass start for the senior teams is at 10am, with the junior mass start at 10:15am. There is also a spectator control, which some of the club really, really hate!
The event details are quite amusing in some places.
“The walls are not overprinted as uncrossable, so if you cross once, cross back, and then use the crossing point and you will not be disqualified. You will, however, be an idiot. Similarly, if you are contemplating crossing a fence then think again, because you are about to make a mistake. Whistles may be carried at your own risk.“
