Support Arrochar Mountain Rescue

Mark Hill sent me an email telling me about how they plan to raise funds by cycling from “end to end” non stop.
You might like to support them in this…
The Back Story
As you might know, in 2005 I had a climbing accident when I fell about 30ft and fractured my L1 (in short I broke my back). I spent 5 weeks immobilized in hospital and then a considerable time recovering to become the “athlete” I am today! BBC news report link I am very thankful to all who came to see me during my time in hospital and sneaking me in fast food and chocolate! However I will always be eternally grateful to all the recue services who helped me on that day;- the Police, the Ambulance crew, the Royal Navy Helicopter crew and the North East Wales Search and Rescue Team which is a voluntary organisation. When I came out of hospital I visited one of the team members and pledged that, instead of giving a cash donation to the team I would, at some point in my life, join a Mountain Rescue team. Well, I am a man of my word and I joined the Arrochar Mountain Rescue team in Scotland. We are an active team of 30 volunteers attending regular “shouts” for missing persons, lost walkers and of course fallen climbers!
So why I am I telling you this?
The Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team is a voluntary organisation providing a mountain life- saving search and rescue service 24 hours a day to an area of over 2000 square miles. The team is reliant on charitable support for its operations, rescue base and equipment. One of the team’s four- wheel-drive rescue vehicles is in urgent need of replacement. So, on Saturday the 21st of August, eight members and friends of the team will begin the task of cycling 800 miles non-stop from “end to end” to raise money for the new vehicle. Team Leader Mark Leyland, myself and 6 other “heroic” team members will set out from Land’s End and aim to arrive in John O’Groats just 60 hours later! Our schedule is a punishing one to keep the pace required. We will all ride the first 20 miles together before splitting the ride up into 50 mile chunks. In order to get close to the target time of 60 hours we will have to ride day and night. Other team members will be providing support with a van, car and mobile home.
I must admit I am very much looking forward to 3 days cycling, eating and sleeping - which have to be 3 of my favourite things!
So how can you help?
You knew this was going somewhere….. if you would be so kind as to sponser us so that we can get a new Landrover I would be very grateful. If you do not wish to donate any money, then please send us your best wishes and look out for us over the weekend.
