OS Grid Ref. NM 861326, Google Map - MultiMap

Terrain:

A generally runnable area made up of series of hills to the north of Oban with some very fast going over the sheep grazed farmland in the centre of the area. Gorse bushes reduce visibility in places.

Courses:

There will be 3 categories: young juniors (up to and including 9 years old) older juniors (10 to 17 years inclusive); senior (all the rest!).
The courses will be in a score format. On the map there will be a number of controls marked. You can visit them in any order and you do not have to visit all of them; each control is worth a number of points. These points are added up to give your score.
There is a strictly enforced time limit – for young juniors this will be 30 minutes, older juniors and seniors will have a time limit of 45 minutes. If you are late back them you start to lose points from your accumulated score.
There will be a handicap system to try and even out different skill/fitness levels, see below for the details.

Start times:

There will be 2 mass starts (all in the category off at the same time).
For young juniors the start time is 4.30pm with map issue at 4.25pm.
For older juniors and seniors the start time is 5.15pm with map issue at 5.10pm.

Entry Fees:

Juniors £2; Seniors £4

EckO handicap system, Club Champs 2008

The handicap system will only apply to seniors.

The club handicap this year will be based on your time per kilometre in the Purple Thistle race(s). If you did not compete in these, then your performance in the Spring series will be looked at and your handicap will be aligned to that of people of similar performance.

The time per kilometre has been directly changed to % (for example, Lynne Walker’s time per km in the Purple Thistle was 15.9min/km; this equates to a % of 159%).

The handicap will be applied as follows:

Your score x your % = handicap score.

Here are the known handicaps at present:
