Inverawe, Spring Series 2010, 06th May 10

Nearest town:

Taynuilt

Directions:

Turn north off the A85 about 3km SE of Taynuilt. Signed to the Country Park & Smokery.

OS Grid Ref. NN 024321, Google Map - MultiMap

Terrain:

An area of many terrain types which is bordered by plantation forestry to the east. An intricate path network in the south around the ponds and through the surrounding broadleaved woodland. To the north the land rises steeply over a broadleaved-covered hillside which opens onto contoured, tussocky moorland where it is easy to make parallel mistakes. Clumps of gorse bushes reduce visibility at times.

Courses:

Yellow: 1.9km, 35m climb
Orange: 2.7km, 100m climb
Light Green: 3.2km, 140m climb
Green: 4.1km, 170m climb
Blue: 5.8km, 22m climb

Coaching tips:
Yellow: always set your map at each path junction
Orange: be prepared for a climb! Choose your route carefully between controls
Light green/Green/Blue; on the moor read the contours carefully and choose a route carefully; use distance judgement (pacing or ‘by eye’)

Lynne will be at the event if you would like to to talk through your course beforehand; everyone with a ‘star card’ can also bring it along to chat about their progress after they have run.

Start times:

18:00 to 19:00. Courses close 20:15.
