With the school summer holiday at an end it was with great excitement that the Shearer clan descended on Balmacara.
After a relatively midge free summer (all these theories about “none of the little blighters because the winter was so cold” etc. etc.) we managed to find the entire west coast biomass had relocated to an old Forestry Commision campsite on the outskirts of Balmacara! Not to be deterred we set up camp with our new green tent, much to Carol’s dismay as she spent the first ten minutes after arrival looking for our old blue one!

O-Ringen 2010

Our trip to örebro was my first trip to Sweden. I had decided I wanted to go to O-Ringen this year and then had a difficult task to convince Andy to come along. The first thing I noticed when we arrived in Gothenburg was how tan and blond nearly everyone was. The sun was shining and it was a lot warmer than it had been in Glasgow!

Briony reports on Lagganlia tour

From my week at Lagganlia I have learnt lots. Maybe not lots of new skills or tools, as they were called, but I’ve learnt to use them more and in a better way to my advantage. I have gained confidence in planning and executing legs as well.

Briony part of winning team at JIRCs

The Junior Inter-Regional Competition trophy, took place last weekend in Sennybridge near Brecon in South Wales.
Briony ran the 2nd leg in the relays and the Scottish girls team won.
Briony has written a report of her trip below.

SOA Development Conference June 2010

Robert Kincaid volunteered to attend this conference on behalf of EckO. The theme was to learn from each other’s successes, as well as deepen knowledge of the contribution to the sport from sportScotland and British Orienteering.
