The first event of the Spring Series.

It was great to get such a good turn out on a Tuesday night at Inverawe. Over 50 folk of all ages took part. We had more than expected on the green course such that we ran out of maps! Hope the few who compromised did not mind too much. Good to see many of our now regular participants take part so enthusiastically with a few more newcomers to the game!

I decided to use this 'wilder' part of the map as it offers an interesting mix of terrain in a relatively compact area. Sufficient tracks for the easier course plus some intricate technical areas to test fine navigation skills on Orange and Green. It was difficult to avoid the rough vegetation underfoot in places. I think course lengths sufficiently accounted for this (thanks to Lynne who curbed my original intentions for the Green course!). As planner I have found it very useful viewing the few plotted routes on Routegadget. I would encourage all those who have not plotted their route to do so. Not least because it's a great way of reviewing your mistakes and learning from them for next time but also to help me review the route choices I tried to incorporate into the courses.

Finally, thanks to Inverawe Estate for being so supportive and accomodating, Paul for his usual skill on OCAD mapping and Route gadget software, Lynne for planning advice, printing maps, collecting controls and driving all they way from Greenock to help on the night and Niall, Andy and his mates for their help bringing in controls.

Quote from a competitor:
"An enjoyable outing - but call this a 'Country Park'?"

You can record the route you took to each control and view the routes other people took on the RouteGadget page.
