Fearnoch, 9th March 08

EckO returned to Fearnoch for another mountain bike orienteering event after the success of last year’s event in the forest. This time it was a score course. This meant that each control point is worth a certain number of points, the more difficult the control, the more the points.

You were not able to visit all the controls in the time available, so you needed to plan which ones will get you most points and still make sure you get back before the time limit. If you were over the time limit then you began to lose points. It was a fun event and you could even end up with a negative score!

Despite very unpleasant weather a good number of people turned out. The planner, Niall Urquhart, gave us lots of route choices and it will be interesting to look at peoples routes in RouteGadget.

The points are calculated by adding up the controls visited and then 10 points are deducted for every minute late back. The time allowed was 75 minutes.
