Thanks Niall, for an interesting twist on a Norwegian event.
At the start (and each control), there was a map for each course, showing only the next control, but the twist was that there were 2 or 3 options (1a, 1b, 1c) with a multiple choice question and the correct answer was the actual control. So if you knew that the answer was b you just had to remember where b was and how to get there (you didn’t get a map to keep).
The real problems start when you don’t know the answer. You then needed to remember the 3 possible control locations and the shortest route to get to all 3 (and they weren’t very close together). Then be confident that you were at the exact possible location, and if no control continue to the next possible location.
My operating system (brain) crashed with an “insufficient memory” & “corrupted file” error when I failed to find my third control. I needed to reboot (return to the start) and contact technical support (Niall) for an update.
Looking at the splits, Callum Hunter would have had a really fast run, but it looks like he got questions 4 & 8 wrong, so lost about 17 mins visiting the false controls. Without that error he would have won by a significant margin, but general knowledge was more important than speed today. But that speed will come in handy at normal events, so keep up the training.
