Sutherland’s Grove, 20th Nov 10
Results, RouteGadget, Winsplits.
Over 60 people took part in the event organised/planned by Alan Partridge with assistance from Andrea Lines.
Alan has done extensive updates to the map recently and so took us to places we have never been before.
Apologies to the yellow course competitors for control 3. We expected them to come to it from the road/path junction to the north of the control, but it seems some came from the south and tried to find the indistinct path to the south of the control and had problems.
The screenshot shows the 2 obvious route choices and the length of each option. It would be interesting to know the thought process that went into the decision to take the longer route, as judging distance is a key skill in orienteering.
Below are screen shots from Winsplits that shows how the Yellow and Orange course competitors were running in a pack at times.
The yellow one is more of a result of the problems finding control 3.
The Green course graph shows that they were not running in a pack (neither were the Light Green or Blue).
When the lines are joined it means that they were in the same place at the same time.
