Local level event

Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Activities are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Report

Today saw EckO club members and visitors from STAG and Fort William enjoying a romp over the hills above Ardchattan. We were treated to some fine weather and stunning views as well as some technically challenging orienteering, lots of climbing and interesting terrain which was mainly runnable if you had long legs and were built like a gazelle, oh, and were reasonably fit. The lack of thick vegetation enabled the orienteer to really look at the contour detail of the map and other features such as marshes using them as line features and attack points to lead them into the control. Keeping close contact with map was the order of the day. A few groups used the courses as a learning exercise to progress their skill level and a couple of our very tiny juniors enjoyed a picnic and just guddling in the burn.

Many thanks to Diane and Jan for planning and organising the day. Thank you also to Donald Cameron, the farmer, for giving us permission to use the area.
