Nevis Range Permanent Orienteering Course Opening Ceremony & Activity
All are warmly invited to the "opening ceremony" of the highest permanent orienteering course in the UK at the Nevis Range on the evening of Saturday 29th June from 4.30pm.
The course has been installed over the last few weeks and is based on a brand new professionally drawn map from Dave Peel. We plan to "cut the tape" at 5pm at the top gondola station, then have an hour score running around the course before heading back down on the gondola with optional food/drinks in the GGT bar. Further details below. Nevis range will look to use this opportunity to take photos for publicity purposes and have kindly offered a 50% discount on the gondola.
Please do consider supporting this initiative to help grow the sport in Lochaber and provide more opportunities for locals/visitors to try our great sport!
Itinerary -
- 4.30pm - Gather at Nevis Range bottom station
- 4.35pm - 4.50pm: Take the gondola to the top station. Toilets at both bottom and top gondola station.
- 5pm: Cutting of the tape with local orienteering and Nevis Range dignitaries!
- 5pm - 6pm. Run around the course. Score course with 22 controls in total, 60 minutes limit. To manage expectations; 10 controls are TD1/2, with remainder between TD3/4 still should be a good laugh though and I promise a good physical workout. Recommend visiting #22 which is the highest control in the UK at 793m!
- 6pm-630pm - Gondola back down to bottom station (gondola will run till we have everyone down!).
- From 6pm - optional drinks/food/pizzas in GGT bar at Nevis Range. They are opening till late on Saturday 29th so plenty of time to get food in. Attached normal menu and there will be specials.
How to enter/book:
- Enter via booking a gondola ticket (which will also include your map). Head to nevisrange.co.uk website and the PROMO page. - and also please email andyllewellyn@gmail.com saying how many are coming (just so I know how many to expect/wait for).
