Five hardy EckO Juniors had great fun at this years Junior Inter area competition at Forres and Roseisle. Hardy - because it was FREEZING!
Read Susannah and Ruairi’s reports about the weekend.

Five hardy EcKO juniors Eilidh Shearer, Rona Shearer, Iris MacMillan, Louis MacMillan and Ruairi Owens took part in the West team at this years Interareas.

A fun and eventful weekend began with a snowy journey to Forres- In October!

Relay teams at Grant Park saw EckO members join other west team runners from FVO and Clyde. Everyone ran well to help West area win the relays ahead of North and East. Iris MacMillan’s team took girls gold and Louis MacMillan’s took boys bronze .

Much fun was had at Inverness youth hostel for the overnight stay on Saturday night with 100 other junior orienteers. Entertainment included a hotly contested team quiz !

Sunday saw individual races at Roseisle . Everyone needed a clean race to gain points for West team against a much larger North Team (bringing in fresh runners for Day 2 !!!.) Despite putting in a valiant effort West were pushed into an agonising 2nd place just one point behind North!

Well Done to everyone for great team spirit all weekend and especially to Ruairi for joining us at a junior team event for the first time.

Many thanks to Susannah who coordinated the EckO team and to Lucy Shearer and David Owens for providing parental support.

Ruairi says:

"The Forres orienteering competition was an amazing experience for me. I enjoyed being in a relay race and it was a very interesting place to race even if it was quite cold. We saw snow on the way. Meeting the people in my dorm in the hostel was an interesting and new experience for me and the quiz was entertaining. The 3 course meal was great. Overall it was a fun experience".
