Ecko members do well on home turf today: Day 1 of Lochaber 2021 Scottish Six Days Orienteering.

Very unlike Ecko country to be so dry underfoot and in glorious sunshine, but that is what greeted competitors today, the first day of Lochaber 2021 Scottish Six Days Orienteering event at Ardchattan.

15 Ecko members ran today with some notable results including;

Iris Macmillan winning W16, Roanne Lilley 2nd W21E, Jura Macmillan 5th W21E and Susannah Macmillan 7th W50L.

Great to see new up and coming enthusiastic sisters Indira, Sylva and Eowyn Rose Price who completed a very technical and physical W10B course in 3rd,4th and 6th place.

In the mens categories Philip Price was 11th in M40L, Andy Dale 12th in M50L and Tom Lines (running for EUOC) came 13th in M21E.

Other Ecko stalwarts Jim and Diane Mailer successfully completed their courses in tough running conditions, plus relative new comers to the Scottish Six Days; Penny Clay and Alison Stewart. This is a step up from our local events and so really good experience for everyone taking part.

Tomorrow, Day 2, moves out of Ecko territory to a new area around Fort William Golf Course, at the base of Ben Nevis. This is a middle distance race in what looks like tricky complex vegetated slopes. The weather is forecast to continue to be hot and dry, and so what would have been marshy slow run could turn out to be faster under foot. I'm looking forward to it.
