Last weekend, saw several Ecko members and families taking part in the Scottish Individual and Relay Championships. The Individuals were held at Dalbeattie Forest near Dumfries and the Relays were held at Drumlanrig.

Dalbeattie - Jan:

Dalbeattie Forest provided sustained physical and technical challenges in varying degrees depending on physical fitness and orienteering ability. Many controls were sited in areas of dense forest leading to poor visibility made more difficult by low lying branches and luxurious undergrowth. Route choice, map contact and re-location were the order of the day executed with varying degrees of success! However, true to form some EckO athletes excelled and others completed their courses with gusto and enthusiasm if a little battered, scratched and bruised.

Special podium congratulations to:

Louis Macmillan who was 2nd in the M18E completing 8.1km with 295m of climbing in 67:45 mins

Susannah Macmillan who was 2nd in W50L completing 5km with 170m of climbing in 75:15 mins

Congratulations to:

Emma Baird 1st W20L, Ross Lilley 15th M50L, Iris Macmillan 5th W14A, Jura Macmillan 6th W20L, Carol Burnapp 13th W50L, Diane Mailer 14th W50L, Gill Berrow 8th W60L and Jan Kersel 10th W60L

Drumlanrig - Susannah:

The Scottish Relay Championships were held at Drumlanrig on an altogether sunnier day than the individuals making for a social and fun day .The forest was a good choice for relays and everyone enjoyed the runable forest after the very “dark green “of Dalbeattie.
EckO mustered 3 teams in the 8+, 17+ and 20+ classes. Unfortunately 2 team members injured themselves before the weekend - speedy recoveries to Alan and Andy .
Ross heroically stepped up and came for the weekend taking Andy’s place in the 8+team with Louis and Roanne . Louis started the team off well coming back in 2nd place ,Ross and Roanne both put in fine performances and the team finished in 4th in a very competitive field .
Team Corryvreckan in 17+ had a great day, Jura 2nd in first leg followed by Gill 3rd on second leg and Emma 8th on third leg - a fine performance which put them third and a place on the podium .
Susannah and Iris ran the first two legs of 20+ but without a 3rd leg runner were non competitive . Relays are always a lot of fun and always better to take part even In an incomplete team .
It was great to see EcKO taking part in the relay competition- we even got the club tent up !
Thanks to everyone for helping out at the String course and start and for an enjoyable weekend . Also to Solway and Ayroc for a well organised event .
