Local level event

Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Activities are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Directions / Parking

Parking at Dunstaffnage Castle Carpark.  

Follow signs off the A85 to Dunbeg and Dunstaffnage Castle.  Continue through Dunbeg, SAMS marine lab to the castle carpark. 

Map / Terrain

Based at the Dunstaffnage Castle Carpark the area comprises the Scottish Association for Marine Science buildings and surroundings, woodland and coastline around Dunstaffnage and beyond Dunbeg new developments as well as some of the public spaces within the Dunbeg settlement.

Registration and Start times

Starts from 11.00 to 12.00.  Registration from 10.30.  Note that clocks go forward at 01.00 on Sunday

If you would like some coaching and introduction to orienteering technique, please come for 10.00hrs.  

Course Information

There will be 3 courses available;

String - For toddlers. Likely marine theme

Yellow/Orange - 2-3Km - Basic use of the compass and route choice. For novice adults or juniors who have orienteered before.

Green - 3-4Km -for experienced orienteers. Technically challenging

Entry Details

If you are an existing member you should be sent an invite to the event via Ecko's Spond App.

If you wish to attend, please accept the invite and state in a comment how many other adult non-members, and juniors will be in your party and how many maps of each course you need.

Once registered we will send you a payment request via the Spond site for the number of people you have requested an entry for.

Entry on the day is possible, but we print only a few extra maps.
