Local level event

Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Activities are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

We are very grateful to Rob and the staff from the Isle of Eriska Hotel for permission to run the event and all the support we have received.

Directions / Parking

There is not a huge amount of parking so please park where the organisers ask you to.  If possible please car share or even better park in Benderloch either at the Victory Hall car park or the school and cycle to the event.  It's about 3.6 miles and will take about 20 mins.

Map / Terrain

Comprises island of Eriska and includes former golf course, rough grassland, parkland around the Isle of Eriska Hotel and technical native wooded area on the north of the island.

Registration and Start times

Starts from 11.00 to 12.00.  

If you would like some coaching and introduction to orienteering technique, please come for 10.00hrs. 

Courses close at 14.00.

Course Information

A range of courses to suit all:

Yellow - 1.6 km Uses simple linear features like paths, walls and streams. Mainly used by under 12’s and family groups
Orange - 2.5 km - Basic use of the compass and route choice. Ideal for novice adults or experienced youngsters
Short Green - 3.4 km -for experienced orienteers. Physically and technically challenging but shorter than a green
Blue - 4.8 km- for experienced orienteers. Physically and technically challenging but longer than a green

Seniors (non members of Scottish Orienteering or British Orienteering) : £7

Dog restrictions

Well behaved dogs on a lead. Please clear up any mess.

Facilities

Registration will be in the Sports Hall.  Toilets will also be available.  No muddy shoes/dobs please.
