December 2023 Newsletter

Dear EckO members and friends,
Ganavan

The weather and terrain were perfect for a cracking event on Sunday. Ganavan was at its best if a little chilly particularly for those on download ie Ross and Alan. Many thanks to Ross for planning four excellent courses which made the most of the best parts of Ganavan. The green and blue course visited some lovely runnable terrain with tremendous views at Dunolliebeag. Ross started to put the first controls out at the crack of dawn. When the helpers arrived all was ready!

Thank you to Alan who did his usual excellent job of organising the entries, starts and download. Surprisingly, the printer still worked despite the baltic temperature.

Ruari and Finlay did an excellent job mentoring other less experienced orienteers and we musn't forget the excellent brownies and flapjacks that sustained starving orienteers. Thanks Liz.

Last but not least, thanks to all our control collectors - Ruari, Finlo, Jan and Ross.

GB Development Squad

Congratulations to Iris who is now a seasoned athlete and has been selected for the GB Development Squad. She is taking an active part in SEDS (Scottish Elite Development Squad) whilst at university who recently had a training weekend at Aviemore. We wish you all the very best, Iris and look forward to following your progress.

GB Talent Squad

Ruari has been selected for Talent Scotland which is part of the GB Talent Squad. He is taking his training very seriously spending a weekend per month with SCOTJOS or the Development Squad, training in various parts of the country. He also now has a mentor - Andy Llewellyn (FVO) who meets with Ruari regularly either virtually or in Argyll to discuss and take part in various training exercises and his next steps as an athlete. Many thanks Andy. Ruari in turn is cascading his enthusiasm and knowledge to helping the club. He was an invaluable support when we ran a series of introductory training sessions for the 35th Argyll Scouts troupe.

EckO would like to wish all our members and friends a very happy and peaceful festive season and we look forward to seeing everybody in the New Year.
